My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience
DIFFERENT KIND OF RAMEN
SHŌYU ("SOY SAUCE") RAMEN
is cooked with Soy Sauce based soup. It has clear brown soup and based on a chicken and vegetable broth.
SHIO ("SALT") RAMEN
Shio ("salt") ramen has sault flavored clear soup.
MISO ("SOYBEAN PASTE") RAMEN
flavored with Miso, which is usually used for Miso-soup. Some Miso ramen is white color soup, some are reddish, which has spicy red-pepper flavor added.
TONKOTSU ("PORK BONE") RAMEN
pork bone based soup which has cloudy white colored soup
